Unlike Craigslist San Diego, we won't accept just anyone!

While browsing the Internet lately, we've noticed that most online classified ad sites such as San Diego Craigslist and San Diego Backpage, allow anyone and everyone to post free ads on their sites. Now, that's okay if you don't mind attracting every scammer and rip off artist in the world to your site.

At Top Local Pros, we take a different approach. You wouldn't want bad people browsing your neighborhood, and we don't want them browsing ours. We screen each and every ad prior to being posted on our site. Now, we don't boast the large numbers as some of the other sites do, but we're okay with that because we'll take quality over quantity any day!

What good would it do to accept every ad submitted when a large portion of the ads are just junk anyway? It makes no sense to us. Our pre-screening process weeds out the junk so that you don't have to!

On rare occassions, sometimes people become angry because their ad was not approved, but that goes along with the territory and we accept that. Our goal is to promote only the "best of the best" in San Diego advertisers. It's simple...And we don't complicate that.

Feel free to stop by and place a free ad. We can't guarantee that it'll make the cut, but you won't know unless you try!

Sincerely,

Top Local Pros

The 4 Leaf Clover in San Diego Classifieds!

When we first decided to create a classified ad site, we realized that as classified ad sites go, if you've seen one, you've seen them all. Our goal was to change that perception. We put a lot of time and consideration into what we thought a quality San Diego classifieds site should look and feel like. We wanted to create an experience for our users, much like an amusement park creates an experience for its visitors. The first leaf was born!

Next, we wanted to create a sense of community, rather than a solo experience. We achieved this goal by creating the TLP Group which is hosted by Yahoo and allows members to communicate with each other and advertise directly to other members of the group who have voluntarily opted-in to join the group themselves. The TLP Group is the second leaf of our free advertising services.

The third leaf is the TLP Blog. Our blog was created so that the advertiser could get a sense of who we are as a company. We wanted to put a voice behind Top Local Pros. Our blog allows us to keep our advertisers informed of any changes or coming upgrades to the TLP website. Since our blog appears in all the major search engines, our advertisers benefit from the increased likelihood that someone will click on a link that directs them to the Top Local Pros website and then ultimately to their ad!

The 4th and final leaf is the Top Local Classifieds website. At TLC, advertisers are able to post items that do not fall into the category of a professional service. The TLC website allows users to post such things as furniture, toys, pet classifieds and personal ads. Since the TLC site has a direct link to the TLP site and vice-versa, if one of the sites does not come up in a standard web search, chances are very likely that the other site will. This means more exposure for your ad!

So, to recap...Top Local Pros offers 4 forms of putting your business directly in front of the San Diego community. No other San Diego classifieds advertising site offers your company this much free exposure. We'll say it again...NO other San Diego classifieds advertising site offers your company this much exposure!!

Ad to this, the fact that ALL TLP and TLC ads are pre-screened by a member of our staff before being posted live to our sites. This generally means fewer ads, but what we lose in quantity, we gain in the overall quality of the ads that appear on our site. We're not interested in playing the numbers game. We want quality.

We're not ashamed to tell you that we want to create a sense that...If you're not advertising with Top Local Pros, then you are truly missing out on something great! We want to be considered as "THE" site for San Diego's top local pros.

Top Local Pros was created to offer the San Diego community the "best of the best" in local service pros. Our mission is simple...And we don't complicate that.

Come join us!

Sincerely,

Kevin L. Craig

Ad Pre-Screening is now in effect!!

As of today, all new ads will be pre-screened by the TLP Staff prior to posting live on our site. The pre-screening feature was implemented due to the increasing number of inappropriate ads being posted to the TLP website.

By pre-screening each and every new ad, TLP can continue to provide you with the high level of professionalism that you've become accustomed to.

Renewed ads will not be screened. Any ad that you edit however, will initiate the pre-screening process once again.

We wish you the very best!

Sincerely,

Pre-Screening of Ads--Coming Soon!

When it comes to San Diego classifieds, TLP continues to grow in popularity. However, we've recently noticed that more and more inappropriate ads are showing up on the TLP website. When we first conceived the idea for TLP, it was our hope that we could for the most part let the site run itself with very little supervision. We were wrong in making that assumption.

Although we could continue to remove unacceptable classified ads manually, we feel that our time would be better spent by reviewing the ads before they show up on our site as opposed to reviewing them afterwards and having to go back in and delete the inappropriate ads. By pre-screening all ads, we have just cut a two-step process down to one.

If you're wondering if this will cause a delay in ads being posted to our site...The short answer is yes, but in most cases, qualifying ads should be approved and posted in less than one hour. You will be notified via email when your ad has been approved and has posted to our site.

Our goal is to be known as "THE" site for locating the top service pros in San Diego county.

Sincerely,

Top Local Pros

TLP is Ranked #1 on MSN Search!!

We are proud to announce that TLP is ranked #1 on MSN Search for the term "San Diego Classifieds." Yes, even ahead of those other guys!

We also hover somewhere between pages 1 and 3 of Yahoo and Google respectively for the same search term. Only a few months ago we were on page 15 of Yahoo and non-existent on Google!

What is the significance of being #1 on MSN you ask? I'll explain.

Every Windows based PC in the world comes with the Internet Explorer browser pre-installed. The Internet Explorer browser has www.msn.com as the default home page, right out of the box. Although a lot of people change their default home page from MSN to www.sandiegoclassifieds.info or some other page, the reality is that most people don't. What this means is that by TLP ranking #1 on msn.com (MSN Search) our site is exposed to a very large number of visitors in search of San Diego classifieds.

The Breakdown: Your ad will get a lot of exposure on our site!

Sincerely,

Top Local Pros

1 Year Anniversary of TLP!!

July 2006 marks the 1 year anniversary of Top Local Pros and with over 500 ads and growing each day, we think that we are well on our way to becoming one of the best San Diego classifieds on the web today! Now, granted we have a long way to go to catch up with the popularity of Craigslist San Diego or San Diego Backpage but remember, having the most ads was never our goal. If that were the case, we would have combined Top Local Pros and Top Local Classifieds into one site and been done with it, but that would have just made us like everyone else and we didn't want that.

Our goal was to clearly separate the two types of classified ads and give each of them a personality of their own. One site for professional service providers and the people in need of professional services (Top Local Pros) and the other site (Top Local Classifieds) for everything else that wouldn't fall into the category of a professional service. We felt that by separating the two sites, it would make the search process much easier on the customer or business in need of a particular item or service. The concept is simple enough...so simple in fact, that we were surprised that no one else had thought of it first!

We were also surprised that other classified advertising sites didn't take advantage of San Diego networking resources like Yahoo! Groups. Group membership means that you can advertise your products or services to several group members with a single email! By joining the TLP Group, you can use your "members only" clout and advertise to other business professionals just like yourself!

In closing we'd just like to say that we hope you enjoy our services and that you will continue to spread the word about our free advertising options.

Sincerely,

Top Local Pros

San Diego Classifieds...REBORN!

You know, sitting here reflecting on how Top Local Pros (TLP) and Top Local Classifieds (TLC) came to be, I realized something. What would have happened if we had created a San Diego classifieds site but made absolutely zero distinction between professional ads and non-professional ads?

Well, for one thing, we could no longer call it Top Local Pros because the non-professional ads would make that an untrue statement. Having said that, I guess we could have simply settled upon Top Local Classifieds as the title for our new, shared professional and non-professional classified ad site but the concept just didn't feel right.

Say for a moment that we did decide to go the combined pro and non-pro ad route. Where would that leave us? Frankly, smack dead in the middle of all the other dual function ad sites without the distinction that we currently have of being a true professional business directory.

We provide a place where online visitors can go to find local San Diego professionals without having to wade through a sea of yard and garage sale items. This concept benefits the advertiser in that you don't have to worry that someone coming to our site looking for the service that you provide and then getting distracted by some really cool Gucci handbag or nice lawn mower and making that purchase instead! I make fun of this but it happens all the time.

Being the CEO of both TLP and TLC, I can tell you right now that if I were to take the ads from TLC and combine them with the TLP website, I will have instantly lowered the value of both sites. Especially TLP. I can say that because although some of the ads at TLP can apply to certain categories within TLC, the reverse is certainly not true. The majority of the ads that we allow on TLC would NEVER be allowed on TLP!

Since we make a practice of cross-promoting our sites, one can assume that if a person is aware of TLC, then they are most likely aware of TLP as well. The reason you don't see the same ads on TLP as TLC is because we delete them. They don't belong there. Plain and simple. We maintain the strictest posting guidelines at TLP and will continue to do so in order to advertise only the "best of the best" service providers in San Diego.

We hope that you appreciate our efforts and extreme commitment to maintaining a quality site and that you will not hesitate to spread the word about our rapidly growing advertising community.

Sincerely,

Top Local Pros

Quality vs. Quantity: Which would you choose?

Unless we're talking about money, I'd choose quality every time! Having said that, the TLP website continues to grow each and every day. In fact, our staff has set out to gain a "minimum" of one new ad per day. In order to accomplish this, we have committed ourselves to performing some form of site promotion 365 days a year. Our non-stop promoting efforts has proven to be very beneficial in getting our San Diego advertisers noticed.

So far, since making this commitment, we've been very successful in achieving this goal. Now, one new advertiser per day may not seem like a whole lot compared to other online advertising sites that are raking in hundreds of ads per day, but we're okay with that. You see, our site is quality based rather than quantity based.

We are very strict in our posting guidelines and everyone who submits to us does not make the "final cut" once our staff has reviewed their ad. In fact, we can honestly say that we have actually deleted more ads than we've allowed on our site. We're willing to sacrifice numbers because that's all they are is numbers. Numbers don't show the true overall quality of a site. They only show the sites popularity...Which is not a bad thing, but we strive for quality first and the rest will take care of itself.

Our goal is to advertise only the "best of the best" in San Diego advertisers. Remember, we are not your typical San Diego classifieds that you see posted all over the net. We are a professional business directory and we emphasize the word "professional." You can have all the advertisers in the world but if the site is full of poor ad content from sub-standard service providers, then what do the ad numbers really mean?

If you're looking for yard sale or garage sale items then go somewhere else, but if you want true business professionals, from a company that holds its advertisers accountable, then we welcome you to join us at Top Local Pros. In short, we want to be known as "THE" place to find San Diego's top service pros. Unlike our competitors' sites, our "business only" listings mean that our visitors can find your business in a hurry without having to wade through a bunch of non-business related listings.

Why would anyone find pleasure in browsing a site that mixes up yard sale items and professional services like grandma's gumbo? Well, we think it's because that's just the way it's always been, until now. That's why Top Local Pros was created!

We welcome you to stop by Top Local Pros and browse our advertisers or post an ad today. As long as you stay true to our "professional code," then we'd gladly welcome you to our advertising community!

Sincerely,

Top Local Pros

Why should you become a sponsor?

Unlike typical San Diego Classifieds, being a professional business directory, we thought it was important for us to offer our advertisers a bit more than our competitors. By offering sponsored advertising on our home page, we've set ourselves apart from the others. Although sponsored ads are not free, the added exposure that they offer your business far outweigh the cost of the ad.

In addition to home page advertising, sponsored ads are randomly rotated throughout the site on at least 5 major pages, giving your ad every bit of your moneys worth and more in terms of visibility and brand exposure!

We can proudly say that there's not a single San Diego Classifieds site in existence that offers more sponsored advertising exposure than TLP. You can Google it until you turn blue in the face, but you won't find one! Now that's what we call priceless!

Although our site is free to use, it is not free to maintain. Besides being challenging, running a fully monitored, human edited directory incurs monthly expenses such as hosting, maintenance, and upgrade fees to keep the site up and running smoothly. Your sponsored ad purchase would assist us in maintaining the quality and high standards that you've become accustomed to.

We wish you much success!

Sincerely,

Top Local Pros

TLP Group

The Top Local Pros Business Promotion and Networking Group, hosted through Yahoo! is a great way to show residents of San Diego that your company is committed to a higher level of service. The TLP Group is a 100% volunteer membership.

As a TLP Group member, you become part of a community, rather than just an ad in the San Diego classifieds. As part of this community, you are held accountable for the services you provide. Members may critique your level of service and tell other group members about their experience.

All comments are screened by our staff before going “LIVE”. Negative comments will NEVER be posted to the group. All negative comments will be filed in an offline database for future reference when someone inquires about your company.

The TLP Group holds its members accountable, much like the way in which the Better Business Bureau does, but without the huge annual membership fee! This benefit alone makes our classified advertising like no other. Our system of accountability tells potential customers that TLP Group members are some of San Diego's finest!

Other benefits of the group include the ability to contact ALL group members simultaneously. This feature allows you to introduce yourself and advertise your services to the entire group with a single email! TLP Posting Guidelines***

At TLP, all new ads must be pre-approved by a member of our staff. If we deem an ad to be inappropriate, it will not be allowed on our site. Whenever an ad is approved, denied or deleted, the poster will be notified via email. In the event that an ad is not approved, the poster may contact us via email for an explanation. In most cases, ads are denied because the poster failed to read our "Posting Guidelines." Renewed ads will not be screened. Any ads that you edit however, will initiate the pre-screening process.

TLP is not your typical San Diego classifieds. We are a professional business directory. Among other things, we do not allow back to back identical ad titles, random keyboard characters such as multiple *****asterisks***** or >>>>arrows>>>> to make a listing stand out. That's what "sponsored" and "recommended" ads is for.

If you place multiple ads within the same "main" category from the "Browse Categories" list on our site, the ad titles must be different. If the ad titles are the same, then you must edit them so that each ad title is unique. The object here is to not have the same ad title appear back to back when viewed on our site. If you have not adhered to these rules, your ad will be denied and you will have to edit and resubmit your ad.

Our staff will typically allow up to 3 characters after the ad title. The only characters allowed before the ad title is a single #, $ or " symbol.

NO "Adult content" products or services.

NO "Multiple Postings" of identical content.

NO "Loan Offers" unless pre-approved by TLP.

NO "Type International" work at home offers.

NO "Pyramid" type opportunities of any kind.

NO "Links Only" or Pay-Per-Click campaign pages.

Not another San Diego Craigslist...

Having been long-time fans of Craigslist San Diego ourselves, we realize that when most people think of San Diego classifieds, Craigslist is generally the first thought that comes to mind. Although the site is very popular and successful, the one thing it does not offer is someone who actually monitors the ads being placed there. They leave that little task to the advertisers themselves. That's like asking a fox to look after the hen house!

At San Diego Craigslist, it's not uncommon to see any number of keyboard generated characters such as multiple asterisks, arrows and the like, in ad titles with the intent of making a listing stand out from the competition. Although the advertisers had good intentions, all they did was lessen the perceived value of their business. Just as street graffiti can lessen a neighborhoods value, "online graffiti" can have the same affect on a website, but more importantly, it can tarnish the image of the company or person placing the ad.

Anyone can launch an automated classified ads site, but it takes real commitment, dedication and genuine concern about the end result to require that each ad be human edited and reviewed for appropriateness and professionalism, but that's what we do at TLP!

TLP is not your standard San Diego classifieds. We are a "Professional Business Directory" and our mission is to provide a professional environment in which people can browse to find "real" business professionals, and not some guy offering "Kickass Web Design". I mean seriously, would you hire a person to create a website for you that talked business like that?

At TLP, our site offers a built-in networking feature called the TLP Group. As a member of the group, members are held accountable for the services they provide. Since members don't want to earn a bad reputation, each member is on their best professional behavior. The TLP Group works much like the Better Business Bureau in that it gives consumers a place to voice a complaint about negative experiences with a service provider.

Don't worry, the TLP Group is also moderated and nothing is posted to the group until it is reviewed by a member of our staff. Although positive comments are encouraged, negative comments are NEVER posted to the group, as they are posted in an off-line database for future reference when a consumer inquires about a providers service history with the group.

Benefits Include:
The ability to advertise directly to all members with a single email. Members can offer special sales events that are made available to other San Diego group members.

The TLP Group, combined with the TLP Website and TLP Blog is one of the best ways to promote your business, and best of all, it's free! Although paid, sponsored ads are available for better placement and visibility, they are 100% optional.

In closing, remember that if you want to be perceived as a professional, you have to advertise like one, and that's why Top Local Pros was created!

Please visit us today and browse our ads or place one of your own!

Sincerely,

Top Local Pros

Identical ad titles are not allowed

Lately we have been seeing more and more ads on the TLP site that are identical to other ads that have been placed by the same advertiser but in a different sub-category. As a general rule, this is not allowed on our site.

We feel that any website/directory that lists the same item several times in a row compromises the value of that website/directory. This practice also lessens the perceived professionalism of the advertiser. Would you call an advertiser that listed the same ad 20 times in a row? Wouldn't that make you think they were desperate and probably not doing very well?

Think about this: If a shopper knows absolutely nothing about your company, all they have to go by is what you put in print. Use your ad space wisely.

**This rule only applies to sub-categories. Identical ad titles may be listed ONLY if the main category you are posting in is different.

Thanks for your kind understanding.

Sincerely,

Top Local Pros
